Solar panels require very little ongoing maintenance.

They are designed to withstand rain, wind, frost and heat. Quality panels are built with toughened glass and durable frames, and most come with long warranties for peace of mind.

That said, a small amount of care helps keep performance where it should be.

What Typically Needs Attention?

For most homeowners, maintenance comes down to three areas:

In many cases, rainfall will wash away light dust. But bird droppings, moss, pollen and debris can accumulate over time, especially on lower-pitched roofs.
