Cleaning & Maintenance
Solar PV systems are designed to be low maintenance. They’re built to work quietly in the background, helping you generate cleaner energy for your home or business.
But that doesn’t mean they should be ignored completely.
Over time, dirt, bird droppings, leaves, moss, debris and general wear can affect how well your system performs. You may notice your panels looking dirty, your generation dropping, your inverter showing an error message, or your monitoring app not working as expected.
That’s where we can help.
Sheerwater Solar supports customers with existing solar PV systems in two simple ways:
- Panel Cleaning Services
- System Maintenance Checks
Here’s exactly what you can expect if you get in touch with us.
-
We’ll understand what help you need
You don’t need to know exactly what the problem is before contacting us.
You may simply have dirty panels, reduced performance, an inverter fault, a battery issue, or a system you inherited when moving into a property.
We’ll only ask a few straightforward questions about your solar PV system, what you’ve noticed and whether you’re looking for cleaning, a maintenance check, or both.
From there, we’ll let you know how we can help.
-
Option 1: We’ll check whether your panels need cleaning
Solar panels work best when they have clear access to sunlight. If the surface is covered with dirt, bird mess, moss, leaves or other build-up, it can reduce the amount of light reaching the panels.
Rain can help rinse panels, but it won’t always remove heavier debris, especially on lower-pitch roofs, shaded areas, or properties close to trees.
If cleaning is needed, we’ll advise you clearly and arrange a suitable time to carry out the work.
Our panel cleaning service can help remove:
- Dirt and general grime
- Bird droppings
- Leaves and organic debris
- Moss and lichen build-up
- Surface dust and staining
The aim is simple: to help keep your panels clear and working as they should.
-
Option 2: We’ll assess how your system is performing
A solar PV system is more than the panels on your roof.
Your inverter, battery storage, cabling, monitoring system and other components all play a part in how well the system works. If one part isn’t performing properly, you may notice reduced generation, warning lights, charging issues or problems with your app.
As part of a system maintenance check, we can review the condition and performance of your existing setup.
Depending on your system, we can check:
- Solar panel condition
- Inverter performance and error messages
- Battery charging and performance
- Monitoring and app connection
- Cabling, connections and visible wear
- Generation data and performance concerns
- General signs of damage or faults
This gives you a clearer understanding of whether your system is working properly, or whether anything needs attention.
-
We’ll explain what we find
Once we’ve cleaned your panels, checked your system, or both, we’ll explain what we’ve found in clear, straightforward language.
If everything looks good, we’ll let you know.
If something needs attention, we’ll talk you through the issue and recommend the most practical next step. That could be a reset, repair, replacement part, further investigation or simply keeping an eye on performance.
We won’t overcomplicate things, and we won’t recommend work unless we believe it’s needed.
-
